The new Grundfos CM horizontal multistage pump family proves that a reduction in physical dimensions does not need to mean a reduction in pump performance.
The overall concept behind the pump is of compact modularity, hence the CM family name.
Two main motor types are available, reaching up to 7.5 kW. Using electronically-speed controlledGrundfos E-motors (CME pump) or standard motors (CM pump) allows users to employ solutions that are sustainable as well as efficient.
The Grundfos CM is designed to be used in a variety of applications. These include
• Washing & cleaning.
• Temperature control.
• Water treatment.
• Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries.
• And more…
Compactness beneficial for OEM usage
A space-saving design enables OEM users to build smaller and save money. Certain dimensions of the Grundfos CM range have reduced by more than 30% compared to corresponding pumps. And the reduction in size has not triggered a corresponding reduction in performance.
The Grundfos CM5-4 features for example dimensions that take up less physical space compared to the existing Grundfos CHI4-40:
• Width: reduced by over 30%.
• Height: reduced by almost 25%.
• Length: reduced by almost 10%.
The impellers, chambers, and therefore outer sleeves of the CM/CME range have been reduced by using advanced hydraulics. The implementation of a new plate-chamber technology contributes to overall compactness as well.
The overall pump efficiency is furthermore greater than similar Grundfos pumps. On selected variants, this increase reaches approximately 12 %, which provides numerous
benefits, most notably the ability to achieve a higher performance from a smaller pump.
The smaller size allows the cabinet to be made smaller, reducing the cost of the product in which the pump is used. In other words, the Grundfos CM/CME range delivers the same Q/H performance with:
• A smaller energy consumption.
• Lower life cycle costs.
• Reduced manufacturing costs.
Grundfos CM/CME pumps are fitted with enclosed, fan-cooled, two-pole motors with principal dimensions to EN standards. All CME pumps use electronically speed-controlled motors. CME pumps up to and including 1.1 kW feature single-phase motors; between 1.1– 7.5 kW, three-phase motors are used. All CM pumps use standard motors: single-phasemotors up to and including 2 kW are offered, with three-phase available up to 7.5 kW.
on the pump. Gap corrosion under the O-ring on the shaft seal can result. In a Grundfos CM/CME pump, a shaft in DIN 1.4401/AISI 316 stainless steel can be utilised together with
other non-stainless steel parts without difficulty.
A number of pipe connections are also available, permitting usage in a variety of situa tions.
They include:
• Whitworth thread RP.
• Internal NPT thread.
• Clamp connection: Tri clamp and PJE coupling..
• DIN/ANSI/JIS flanges.
Reliability in focus
A strong focus on reliability has made the CM/CME the most comprehensively reliable product family in the marketplace. A new motor design, shaft seal, shaft, locking of impel ler,
and a installation indicator give our customers peace-of-mind.
Clamping of the pump's impellers uses a new stop ring to form a well-defined base. Combining this with a Nord-lock© washer at the other end of the pump stack creates a robust and reliable design.
The risk of sticking in shaft seals where SiC/SiC seal faces are used has been greatly reduced. The new CM solution builds on both the implementation of a rotation stop on the stationary ring and the presence of different surface finishing on the stationary and the rotating rings. This specially-developed aspect is a result of Grundfos' competencies within materials and applications. The new shaft seals also feature excellent abilities to
cope with dry-running.
High-quality materials used throughout the CM/CME pumps further strengthen the pump. Several components are available in DIN 1.4301/AISI 304 and DIN 1.4401/AISI 316
stainless steel with excellent properties. Shaft seals even feature FFKM O-rings, which offer outstanding performance regarding media featuring a high concentration of nitric acid, for example.
Performance increased
Performance parameters have been increased greatly. Available in both 50 and 60 Hz models, Grundfos CM/CME pumps can be used globally. The maximum flow has been dou bled
compared to Grundfos CH pumps, with maximum head being tripled. Furthermore, a great number of approvals within drinking water applications have already been achieved.
This provides clarity for the customer across market needs.
